I'd love to see ALT from Spin SW win in its categories. IMO, Spin do a great job with their Irish language programming. It feels like it's a show first, and in Irish second, something which can't often be said for the lipservice stations pay to the Irish language quotas. Plus, ALT really does play some super music.

A lot of nominations for Newstalk. Interesting Pat Kenny getting one for his show and Sean O'Rourke only getting an individual nomination and not a show one.

Not a huge amount for today fm.

Glad Tony Fentons interview with U2 was shortlisted. It was an emotional, open, relaxed and informative conversation.

That surprised me too. For me they are probably the best regional station in the country. Have they won anything in the past?

They don't themselves but Luke O Faolain (up for newcomer and radio DJ) works for them now. So they can claim him I suppose...

Stations themselves aren't up for any awards really, all of them are in the mix for Music Station of the Year.

Well, if the New York Festivals is a yardstick, RTE Radio should sweep all before it in most of the categories!!

And Radio 1 should be the best full service station.

New York Festivals said RTE Radio was the best - better than the BBC and NPR - so there!

If that performance is not repeated at the PPI Awards, then one set of judges are incompetent!
But it's okay. The PPI Radio awards have this covered!!

From the Juding Rules section of their website:

"The sponsors, organising committee and judging panel will not be held accountable for the failure of any judge or judges to follow the judging instructions issued to them."

The awards are based around an entry compiled, edited and sent in by each broadcaster. For example if the category is A1- General Music Programme then music shows will compile an entry from one show they thought was decent and send it in to be judged.

My point being that just because RTE won at the New York festivals depending what audio they submit to PPI and who else they are up against in the various categories then they might not win necessarily.
