Hey, I would like to hear your suggestion for my first car.
I am 20 years old and I am about to receive "full driving license".
I am looking for 2001+ cars for <1500€, as full time student can't afford more..

Id prefer Japanese/German cars (except freaking micra) at 1.0 or 1.2l. I was looking at Yaris/Corsa/Polo, maybe even golf 4 but I think quote would be too high.

Cars which I won't buy are : fiats, fords, renaults and citroen. No hate pls :D

    Ford fiesta 1.3 8v.

Tank of a car with good fuel economy, goodish handling and good serving costs.

When I say good servicing I mean when it lets go at all it's gone to scrap. These days I'd say you can pick one up for under 1000euro. Also very cheap insurance as not a go to option for wreckers like Peugeot and Citroens are, as to why you included a corsa beside a Yaris and polo is beyond me. Yaris is nearly in the league of a second car after your first craps out and VW are horrible to fully service, insure and resale at that value.

I know you said no Ford's, but,

Consider a Fiesta. 1.25 Zetec. Very reliable, well equipped, and great fun to drive. I would take one over a yaris any day.

Insurance on them are a bit higher but you would pick up a clean one from 2002 and still have change from your budget.

Edit- guy above bet me to it.

I'm going back to the Mk4 where the 1.25 was actually more powerful and more reliable in fairness. As to why they haven't been abused by young drivers I have no idea. Rust and oil use are priorities to watch for. When mine ran dry of oil (my own fault) it blew the rocker shaft into bits and I tiddled my way down to the local mechanics where he met me in the yard laughing cause he heard me a km away on 3 cylinders with the throttle flat.

Hands down beats the Lupo I drove afterwards but not the 1990 Corolla and the 1993 Civic Coupe I've had since although they have both been NZ cars and not exposed to abuse and salted winter roads

    Yaris

Getting a good 01+ Yaris for €1500 is tricky

Daihatsu sirion would be worth a look

I highly doubt I could get a nice fiesta for less than 1500€ with low milage, my and my dads experience with ford is pretty bad, so...

Didn't say it would be nice though. Old saxo-like shape, Air conditioning, power steering and 100 euro would see you with a lovely stereo. Some even have a sun roof so you can take D Turbo style pics with it up and the pop out rear passenger windows out.

I recently picked up a 2000 very clean fiesta with 80000 miles for 750 euro as a run around. Air con, all electric, sunroof etc.

€1500 would get a really nice one. The Zetec engines were designed by Yamaha and are very reliable. I would drive one before you rule them out.

I had a new yaris as a company car in 2011 and hated it. It felt like it was going to explode. Never mind and old used one.

I am sure you do. They are a good car.

Worth a bit more than 1500 though.

For someone on quite a limited budget your list of "no-goes" is pretty extensive, plus most of the companies on that list cater for your budget range. Also as a fiesta owner myself, I've been very happy with my purchase, although i spent a good bit more than €1500

My Fiesta also set me back more than what you can afford, but it has been well worth it. Saw a nice hyundai getz for 2000 in the same dealership.

You'll get plenty of fiestas for your budget. Good reliable cars, and plenty around. Just watch for rust is the main thing on them.

As for the 1.2 Polo recommendations, I would avoid like the plague. Bad engine, and I believe the earlier models (02ish) were known to be even more troublesome.

I have a 2001 VW polo (1 litre) and I love it. Being 20 and male it's cheap enough for insurance and tax and it's pretty economical for the 80km journey I do everyday.

That's how it works ya :P your quote is based on age, car, gender, location and how many km you want a year.
