Things we were promised but which never came to fruition?

Almost a decade ago Dublin we were promised manned 24-hour unisex toilets which would include a kiosk manned 24 hours a day, with wheelchair access, baby changing facilities, hand washing/drying facilities and a water fountain.

    Yet, we never got 'em!

Anything else you can think of that we as a country were promised but yet, for one reason or t'other, we never got?

For those thinking it would be funny to speculate on why I would want public toilet facilities: I'm a pimp and my women be needing their privacy.

They should use it as a decoy to get all the junkies and scumbags down there. Then seal that b!tch up.

Less people are smoking because non smokers don't have to enhale 10 cigarettes a night just standing in a bar.

A guy from irish water rang me the other day. He wanted to know when I was going to pay my bill.

Then at the of the conversation, he said "are you promising to pay"

I was raging that I didn't think to say "no but I pinky swear" ;)

In the 1960's we were promised:
    Too cheap to meter electricity.
    That further away than ever.
Robots to do almost everything and that we would only need to work 20 hours a week to support our families. We would have so much spare time that there would be more working in the leisure industry than anything else.
We now need two incomes working longer than ever to have a decent lifestyle and are too knackered to enjoy the leisure time
    .
Every town would have A computer system!
I now have more processing power in this roon than than NASA had during the lunar project in the 1960s
