Wrong distance reading

A mate of mine has bought a 2013 Suzuki sx4 2.0 diesel and he has done a few long journeys in it and reckons that it is under reading the distance travelled. Now he is wondering if the car has been clocked or something or is it wrong tyres? Any ideas?

Not DIY effort, moved to main forum.

So he reckons the odometer doesn't record distance properly but it still records?
    That's not very likely.
Even with wrong tyre size the reading will be pretty accurate, maybe a mile off in 200 or so.

What size tyres does he have on?

Not too sure about the size but they look normal for the vehicle. Example of mileage is normally around 100 km from here to Dublin but he's getting a reading of around 85 km for the same journey now.

Are you sure the odometer isn't in miles? Could be a UK import.

Fairly easy to figure out if it's reading accurate.

Get another car, take odometer reading in both and go for a 50km drive.

Definitely not an import but something isn't right, all the road signs can't be all wrong,. He's been doing the same journey for years and knows the distance

Compare the distance travelled on the car to a satnav. Should be almost identical.
