How do i set up a static ip address for a linux receiver on an huawei hg658c?
I Want to stream from my downstairs vu+solo2 to a vu+ zero upstairs. I have it set up and running. I want the address on the master box to remain the same!

    Log into your vodafone router

    on left click BASIC
    click LAN
Scroll to the end of the page

you will see a heading for STB
you could put your IP address of you box in there if you like

But it will work anyway if you just give your box a static address you dont have to do anything in the router been streaming from my box for ages without anything set in the router
These routers are pretty poor so make sure your using a lan cable to your box as streaming HD over you wifi may end in tears
If you cant run a cable you could consider the homeplugs that turn your socket into a network port

Choose no to where it says use dhcp

    Probably also should have added

    after choosing no to dhcp
You will see an option to assign an address

so in your screenshot your current address is 192.168.1.8
So instead put something like 192.168.1.25
    255.255.255.0

    gateway is 192.168.1.1

If you wish you could also change your router
    log in
    Basic
    Lan
    Dhcp server

Change the end ip address to 192.168.1.24 so that your router will not try to assign an address of 25 to another device at a later date

Actually i have never seen My router assign an ip higher than 16 so I'll probably just leave it or would that be the wrong thing to do?

Yep you could save but if I were you I would use something further up like 192.168.1.25
    see my previous post

    Or in your router
    Basic
    Lan

There is an option to reserve an ip address you could put in your new ip there and this will avoid a conflict later on

It is grand either way as you can see there are different ways of doing it if you have saved 192.168.1.8 it will be fine

    Test it out

go to your browser and in the search bar type 192.168.1.8 and you should get the webif page

Not sure if you will need to reboot you box to make the change effective
what box have you got ?

I need to enter my mac address as well to reserve this ?
