Hi, I'm currently looking at a 2008 Volvo S80 that really interests me. It has a 2.5l Petrol engine. I was wondering if anyone who might own one or has driven one before could give me a quick run down on the car.

    How are they to drive?
What sort of mileage do they get? (my daily commute is about 100km)
Are there any problems with them and how much were the repair costs?

I'm driving a C30 at the moment but i'm looking for a bigger car with an automatic transmission. The car i'm looking at seems perfect but i would really appreciate the benefit of other people's hindsight.

I have driven an 07 S80 2.5 auto, and I'm afraid it's not good news.

It's actually quite astonishing how such a great engine, with over 200 horses can feel so slow. And it likes a drink, by god is there a thirst to that car.

One I drove was a pool car for a while, took it from a customer in Wexford back to Dublin - very comfy but under powered, then the boss used it to commute to work. I took it to fill up and had 450 km to empty on a full tank, so that should give an idea of the thirst.

    A6 2.0t instead?

Thanks for answering. I think the A6 is a little out of my price range and not really my style. Have you had any experience driving a '08 saab 9-5, '07 bmw 3 series or maybe a '08 mazda 6?

It's a bit of a random selection but any info is much appreciated.

Haven't had a '07 but I drive an E90 and they're fantastic cars. 320i doesn't feel too under-powered in manual mode and to be honest rarely feels that slow in Auto, but if you want the extra thrust maybe a 325i? Expect under 600km to a tank with 50/50 city/motorway so thirsty enough. Few things to be aware of as with any BMW but from what I learned this year when looking for mine, specifically be on the lookout for N47 engines, they have known (and pricey) timing chain issues so look for for that job to have been done or avoid altogether.

Probably a bit late responding to this but I did own an S80 SE 2.5T and loved the car but found it incredibly expensive to run especially coming from a V70 D5. Apart from the road tax going from 1200 to 1400 the fuel consumption was more than twice my old D5's, more so if you constantly drive in hilly terrain like I do.

Never found issue with the power and response.
