    The Iron Man of cycling
He trained using homemade stone weights, he once raced for four days with a broken collarbone during the Rás and was said to do 40 miles on his bike after a stage just to cool down.

He said he learned about drinking cow’s blood from the Masai warriors of East Africa.

I've no interest in competitive cycling, but what a fascinating man.

Never met him, knew nothing of his past. But some months ago I read on here about his house being broken into. That was when I got to read online about the man,and some man he was.I always admired Kelly as being a hard man on the bike, but Mick Murphy in my opinion was a Son of a B1t3h on a bike, according to the reports Ive seen.RIP

I heard him being interviewed on the radio one night when I was coming home from work and I was thinking no way are these stories true.

So I went to try and find out more about him and they were all true.An amazing man.

    A legend is right.

Mick Murphy gets his own chapter in this book: https://www.collinspress.ie/the-ras.html#/product/191
    Highly recommended reading.

We won't see the like of him again, a man from a different era.

The stories really are jaw dropping and his life was fascinating right up to the end. I met him before. He was a passionate sports man. Very entertaining to talk to.

    RIP Mick.

I picked up a copy of Bikes Etc today. They had their end of year awards and named Mick Murphy as their Cycling Legend and had a good 5-6 page article about him. Very surprised that a British mag would have been so aware of him but they really held him in awe.
