Attic Saorview Arial Advice

    Hi
We have been on a sky package for years and are considering cancelling it. This would mean installing a Arial to receive the terrestrial Irish channels as our old chimney Arial blew down years ago. There is already a Saorview box built into the t.v. to attach to. I would rather not the hassle of installing an Arial on the chimney again. Could anyone suggest a method that could employ the Arial in the attic? We are in a rural area but never had problems with reception before. Thanks

You have a satellite dish. You can locate the aerial close to the dish (if that would be in the direction of the transmitter) and use a combiner/splitter to poke both satellite and aerial signal down the one cable. At the TV you use another combiner/splitter to split out the signal.

Obviously, if the house is in the way, this will not work unless the aerial is on the chimney, which you wanted to avoid.

O.k cool, thanks. I'll explore that option. Thank you.

I tried pointing a small, portable aerial outside an upstairs window, facing direction of transmitter but received no signal. I presume it would have to be a much larger aerial? Any suggestions? Thanks

You need to specify your area and transmitter you are pointing to, not sure whos telling you to point the aerial in the direction your sat dish is pointing this is not correct for everyone...

check the Saorview coverage map for rough ideas of the transmitter needed.
    http://www.saorview.ie/get-saorview/make-the-switch/coverage-map/

You then need to tune the tv to the specified frequencys listed for given transmitter.

I'm based in Leixlip, and pointed one of these aerials towards Three Rock, from inside the attic.

Be sure you are pointing the right way. Some people think the 'arrow head' should be towards the signal which is wrong. In the case of he image you linked to, 3Rock should be to the right of the picture.

Hi..thanks for all yere help. yea the Gorey one would be my nearest transmitter, presumably face it the same direction our old chimney aerial was. The room where the tv is is part of the attic that was converted so possibly adequate height if I placed suggested aerial outside window, worth trying anyway
