Heard a promo on Radio 1 for The Mooney Show which starts tomorrow at 6pm. Expect blue tit talk, Eurovision and possibly Brenda Donohue!

Yet more dumbing down of RTE R1, one of the last slots on the schedule for varied programming like Documentary and drama handed over to fecking Mooney.

Well Brenda will be done with her gig on the Marty Squad. I listened a few times on my home from games this summer.

Basically, GAA expert Brenda would gather a crowd of supporters (usually women) outside the OBU, ask a few stupid questions and get them all to go "woooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo" at the end.

Come to think of it, Mooney could have down that job.

Radio 1 Extra at the same time (Sat 6 p.m.) - 'A Prairie Home Companion'.

A radio institution and guaranteed Eurovision-free!

Ah, he's not the worst. At least not since Ray D'Arcy came along anyway.

    Not the worst at all.

Although the listener would definitely benefit if he had a strong producer who forced him to keep the self-interest items to a minimum.

Does RTÉ have such a person as a strong producer?

Well it's not radio 1 but Alan Swan on 2fm seems like a very good producer.

I'll take your word on that, as I listen very little to 2FM.

Time and again I found found myself thinking, when listening to some of the "stars" on RTÉ R1, that there should be a producer telling them "Don't go there!". They really seem to get out of control.

A former PD (I believe) of i105-107 before they were allowed merge content, he should be able to produce pretty much anything. The ex-i staff levels on 2fm would help!

Heard some of this Saturday Show last week and this week. Think broadcasting show once a week suits Derek-although there was a Eurovision mention tonight!

This show just seems to be a shortened version of the old show.Next thing, he will be back at three o clock again.

I often wondered is he kicking himself that he gave the day job up?

Or did he need to give it up to realise how much he loved it?

I can see him sneaking back to primetime radio soonish.

Very good point re a strong producer very much needed for Derek as he tends to go the same cul de sacs everytime.
