    Hi

I just brought a new 2011 Ford Focus TDCI . When I returned home shortly after I brought it I turned off the ignition . When I got out of car a noise came from the fans by engine. It was loud enough noise as if the car was still on. They switched off themselves then after about a minute.

    Is this normal ??

+1, it's the coolant fan doing its job.

Could that be the DPF finishing it's regeneration cycle?

If it knocks off after a minute its grand but just make sure it does there was a few cases of those fans staying going and running down the battery when that model came out and it required a pcm upgrade.

Went in for short spin into town and it happened again tonight. Fans were going for 5 mins after engine was turned off . I checked under the bonnet and engine was very warm.

It is the DPF re-generation, the shorter the journeys the more frequent the regeneration, the time for completion of the re-gen means the cooling fan stays on after you stop and switch off the ignition because it did not complete the regen on the journey.
Since I got the DPF taken out I don't have this problem anymore.

As mentioned it could be that the car keeps trying to do a dpf regen and your turning off the engine during it the fans run to cool down the system as it send diesel in to get up to high temperature to burn up the soot. Have you brought the car on any long decent trips up the motorway for over an hour to give it a chance to regenerate tipping around town is no good for the process it needs time.

Only after getting car. I say it's being sitting idle with month or so.

Have only driven it a few miles on dual carriage way and even that wasn't with foot down. Will be making a long journey from dublin to cork tomoro on motorway.

Or if the car was driven as a diesel should be ie loads of long trips as they weren't designed to tip around town all the time you wouldn't have to remove the dpf and you wouldn't here the fans as it would do regen during the long trips. The system works well and causes no trouble when it's given the opportunity.

That should sort it so. If it still does it after that you need to get it looked at.
