Ok - There are two cameras mounted on a pole at 90 degrees to the road here
(Street view taken before they were in place). They look down to the centre white line and across the road at 90 degrees. There are two - one smaller than the other at the same height and they both look kinda like this

I've often wondered what they are for? They have been in place for a few years and I haven't seen any others. Are they counting traffic? Any ideas?

I don't know the road but that looks like a prime spot for fly tipping from the street view. Perhaps they're there to stop people illegally dumping rubbish?

You could be right. Just noticed the No Dumping sign on the gate. The thing is they are fixed pointing to the road. Just kinda strange as they don't appear to have a means of turning to look elsewhere and I've never seen them point anywhere but at the main road. Perhaps they may be a deterrent.

I was thinking that the smaller camera might be infrared and the larger one just normal CCTV. I think they are live as there is a power box next to them. Seems odd though as there are other places I pass that are regularly used to fly tip and at that location I've never seen anything dumped there - except ironically in the streetview pic....
