How's it going lads. I drive a 1.3 Irish lancer and was thinking of getti A conversion done. Just wondering if anyone can offer up some opinions and help on whether to go gsr or mivec. Also what parts are needed and any good garages around Dublin or people to do the conversion? Thanks in advance 😊

    Engine
    ECU and loom.
    Upgrade Brakes all round
    Wheels(just guessing your on 175 70 r13's)

Better of buying a well looked after GSR or mivec. You more or less need a donor car anyway. Unless you know of a good engine trying to find a good 1.6 or 1.8t on a pallette is taking a risk.

Thanks man appreciate it. Be a lot cheaper for a conversion plus body on mine is immaculate. Are they hard to changeover?

Rare enough that. Not really hard to do if you have a donor car or all the bits and pieces. Good condition engine mounts would be a start. 1.3 mounts are the same but can be a bit lighter and if they are worn the bigger engine will be hopping about so replace any that are. One timing belt side, another on the box and 2 below on the crossmember. Use your 1.3 box for the gsr. You'll need a mivec engine and box(preferably and LSD one). Have a gen2 1.6 engine and box there. Not sure what the plans are for it yet. Have you found an engine?

No man not yet, still in the thinking process, but as you said there's not many bits needed. Only worry would be the loom?

Loom will fit alright. Just a case of swapping them over. There's extra sensors and the mivec solenoid to plug into. You'll need a set of mivec clocks too.

That mean changing the dash loom also? Dno whether gsr is the easiest option

No just the engine bay loom. The 1.6 will be easier to fit and more reliable. A better daily engine. There quite good on fuel if your taking it handy. The GSR engine doesn't take well to the boost being turned up. Was looking for one a while back but it's risky enough getting one off a pallette as theyre so easy for someone to wreck messing with boost settings. You'd really want to do brakes and suspension work beforehand with the gsr too. If your stock brakes and suspension are in really good nick they should handle the 1.6 ok but even still your doubling your hp. The big difference between the 1.3 and the 1.6 is how quickly you go from 80 - 120 km/hr.
