Have €250 for an upgrade of sorts on an I52500K P8P67 system. Motherboard/something died and want to get him a new bundle.

AMD looks to be best budget wise, any opinions?

    Is the RAM dead? An i5 4460 and a H87 will be about €250, with 8gb DDR3 at €50

Otherwise, an i3 4160 is your friend.

A 2500k is still a fine chip when overclocked, if its still working, might be worth holding onto.

AMD CPUs are to be avoided until concrete evidence that they're good at DX12 arises. ATM, they're crap gaming chips.

    dreamers, whats the symptoms?
Also where are you based (Just in case you live close to any of us that we could probably help you fix what you have and use your money for upgrades instead)

Its a Asus P8p67 Pro rev 3.1 motherboard (my old one) along with 8gb DDr3 and i5 2500K.

No boot and LED on board stays green. PSU and GPU are newish (this year), I had the board for a number of years and the cooler is antec H20 cooler (which may have exceeded its lifetime).

I have X99 system so cant test any parts to find the problem. In D22

    Update

Got him an I3 bundle with a better CPU cooler, tested the I5 2500K with the new cooler and confirmed it was the Antex H2O which had died.

So have a spare I5 2500K with mobo and 8gb ram now :o

Bench i3 vs the i5, i3 should be easy sold if its weaker.

Or take the i5 yourself, but it won't be too easily sold imo

Overall even at stock speeds the 2500K is still considerably better than the latest i3's.

Most games it won't be noticeable granted, but a few very intensive games will show a decent amount of extra frames for the 2500.

If your looking to get a few quid back I would buy the mobo and CPU off you :)

Still something funky going on, you can have it if you want. Stuck the I3 in his pc and its fairly comparable speed and wont be OC`d
