Your favourite LW of all time?

I thought it might be fun to try a simple competition for the MMA forum, and best to start with the lightweight division

    Simple rules
List your top 3 fighters, 3pts for 1st, 2 for 2nd and 1 for 3rd and I can add them up after a while.

Who is your favourite(s). So not who is the best since that would turn into a cluster**** straightaway, but who you like the most for whatever reason, skill, charisma or just plain willingness to throw down.

Try to give a reason and Opinions are subjective, post your own rather than tearing down everyone elses

    I'll start it off
    1st
Frankie Edgar, one of my all time favourites. His fights with Maynard are legendary. Undersized guy who never gave up and has fantastic skill to back up his heart.

    2nd
BJ Penn. Probably the most talented LW of all time, and another guy who was never afraid to step up and fight.

    3rd
Denis Siver, odd one, but I love spinning back kicks!

    1. Frankie Edgar

His BJ fights establsihed him as a solid LW. His tenacity verses Maynard made him a legend. This is still one of my favourite takedowns in MMA

Frankly, I thought he won the first fight verses Bendo - but it was close. And he definitely won the second fight. Therefore he is actually the reigning LW champion as he has not been defeated at 155 since then.
Easy first pick, Frankie Edgar the current 155 champ.

    2. Khabib Nurmagomedov
Sambo master, Suplex's galore, most TDs in a fight (21 vrs Trujillo), undefeated at 22-0.
    Enough said

    3. Joe Lauzon
Not the greatest fighter in the division, but one of the greatest to watch. 12 "oftheNight" awards. Exciting matches and submissions. And a genuine nice guy who just loves the sport.
He's pretty active online, and often interacts with fans trough social media. (See his Palhares breakdown)

    Honorable mentions
BJ Penn - The original king of 155. Great fighter who lacked a little in motivation at one point.
I would of picked him at no.2 onlt his career tapered off towards the end. 1 win from 7 fights. And even that was against a broken Matt Hughes. The last time we really seen BJ was vrs Diego Sanchez.

    jens Pulver
The first 155 champion. Epic comeback on his defense vrs BJ Penn. He never actually lost the title in the UFC. Career tapered off like BJ Penn's did.
Another genuinely great guy though. Loves the sport, and does a lot of work at with new fighter starting out. (Coach on MMA tv show Wimp2Warrior in australia)

    1. Donald Cerrone - Have to love his style and attitude. Great stand up, powerful kicks, Can't sleep on his ground game too, very aggressive, and I think he could very well have gold around his waist soon.

    2. Khabib Nurmagomedov - Mellors already said it. Delighted he's on the TUF Finale card and I'll get to see him live. Its a cert that he'll be LW Champion at some stage.

    3. Al Iaquinta - Love his fighting style, wears his heart on his sleeve and I could listen to Matt Serra and Ray Longo all day!

    1. Donald Cerrone: Love everything about his fight style and the fact he aims for 6 fights a year. An animal in the cage!

    2. Nate Diaz: When he's in top form he's unreal, constant pressure with sharp boxing love watching him dismantle opponents.

    3. Benson Henderson: Any man who can get away with fighting 5 rounds with a toothpick in his gob is good in my books. Seriously though great fighter with great pressure and serious techniques! (punches to the thigh? mental)

    1) - Frankie Edgar. I just love his heart and will to keep pushing the action regardless. His 2nd fight against Maynard is one of my all time favourite fights.
He was out of it a few times in the 1st round and then came back in the 2nd round to absolutely manhandle Gray despite a crazy amount of punishment taken.

He may not be the most skilled fighter but his will to fight really is incredible.

    2) - BJ Penn. The guy is a legend in the sport and one of the first fighters I ever saw when following MMA. Vicious as fook on his day and whatever about recent Octagon appearances, he was certainly a fighter I was always excited to watch.

His fight against Diego Sanchez was outstanding and him licking the blood off his gloves at the end has become an iconic moment for me.

    3) Donald Cerrone. The guy is a freak and I mean that in the most positive way possible. He comes across as an every day kinda guy. Someone you could go on a session with and shoot the shít.

Fighting style, he is so exciting to watch. You always get that feeling that anything could happen whenever he goes up against somebody.

He's incredible and despite a packed division around him, I am amazed he wasn't given a title shot way before now tbh.

    1. Joe Lauzon. Reason: He had that x-factor right from his debut against Pulver and he is always super entertaining to watch. Outstanding grappler and super cool guy. Future hall of famer, without a doubt.

    2. Ross Pearson. Reason: He was great to watch on TUF right from his first fight in the wolfs lair gym. Far from the most technically gifted in LW history, but he always comes to fight and is always willing to stand and bang. Good boxer. Head movement at his best was second to none. Before we had so many irish fighters in the UFC he was the easiest of the Brits to get behind and genuinely root for.

    3. BJ Penn. Reason: BJ Penn.

I thought if there was a decent response we could do a few more divisions... FW would probably get a miss though :p
