    Hi,

Can anyone tell me if a replacement back brake seal is covered on warranty by Toyota for an Avensis?
I have told by my local dealer that it's not and Am a little surprised but can't really argue otherwise.

    Cheers.

Would it be stepping up to AC though? I wouldn't have thought so

What do you mean brake seal ?? Is it the calliper ??

Brake pads and discs would not be covered under warranty but any other parts should be covered as long as its not extended warranty that tends to cover less than standard warranty.

Sorry it's a calliper seal alright. It's year four on a five year warranty so that doesn't cover as much as up to year three.

Bit of a gimmick so giving a five year warranty if year four and five are limited!!

Politely ask the garage to put their refusal in writing .

Seals are to my mind non consumable parts, ie, they are not expected to be replaced during normal use.

Consumables and non warranty items would include as mentioned, pads, discs, filters, lubricants etc. also bulbs etc.

Do you have the warranty paperwork to check against?

I'd have thought the opposite. Seals are shaped bits of rubber or plastic - they fail eventually.

i thought toyota ireland only carried a three year warranty, Toyota UK have a 5 year warranty. I had a 2012 Avensis which only had a 3yr warranty. It was a UK Import but only the 3yr warrant applied here. The automatic handbrake became faulty and wasn't covered under warranty here but was fixed under warranty in Northern Ireland.

Possibly but if the normally accepted brake parts which arent covered by a standard warranty, pads and discs, are out if the equation there's little else left in the brakes area that is covered by the warranty.

Might as well say the brakes arent part of the warranty at that rate!

I wonder are brake hoses covered under the warranty?

It is a UK import alright. I have made sure to get it serviced etc in the North so I'd have no issues with warranty. Looks like I'll have to cough.

I have heard also of that handbrake issue on 2010 models but not 2012. That's a costly business too if out of warranty so hope that doesn't crop up on my car!!!
