    Hi guys

I really like the Pajero Sport. I'm looking at a 2006 one this weekend. Anyone ever have one? Anything to look out for?

    Any feedback would be great.

    Thanks

Thirsty and crap to drive. Whats to like ? Buy a hyundai terracan

    Couple of things to note

They're quite an old model. They were launched in 1996 and weren't exactly cutting edge back then.
The 2.5 engine is a bit gutless, and they're hard enough on fuel. the biggest criticism I'd have compared to a regular pajero is the driving position, low seat and high floor, like a pickup.

    Thanks guys.

I'll take a drive in it and check out the driving position. I know to check the flywheel too - 5th gear, low revs, accelerating - any vibration and its doge.
As for being thirsty I work close to home so won't be doing high mileage.

I checked out the Terracan...👎👎 don't like it.

What didn't you like on the terracan?

Fair enough. It's not exactly pretty!

What will you actually use the jeep for? Will you be able to tax it commercially?

Pulling the odd trailer - won't be too big a load in it. And transporting a canoe.

Have to tax it private! €1080!!

Look at a Tucson 2.0 CRDI
Preferably the later 140bhp (post mid 06)

Ok. I'll stay clear. I'll test drive the Pajero. Been thinking of getting one for a good while now. I'll report back how it goes.

I bought a full size pajero about 5 years ago with the idea that it'd be cool to have a big jeep for off-roading and general messing.
Novelty wore off pretty quick from keeping it in diesel, struggling to keep up with traffic, and not having back seats.

    Mitsubishi Outlander perhaps?

If yoy really need a jeep you will love your jeep whe you buy one. If you don't you will grow to hate it in short time. Several reasons for this.
    1. Diesel. Lots of it for little mileage.
    2. CVRT. Every year at €111 for the test.
    3. More expensive parts, tyres etc.
    4. Slower and in general less comfort than an equivalent value car. There are exceptions to this but they are at the upper end of the price bracket.
    5. If commercial tax is not an option the tax will be cruel
    6. A bloody car wash even costs more.

I have a crew cab pick up (isuzu dmax) and love it. It is no beauty and is not refined in any way but I have a fragmented farm and spend a lot of time pulling loads of cattle from holding to holding so I really need a 4x4. If I was in a different situation I would never have one.

My advice op would be buy a small, more economical SUV or an estate car unless you are a masochist and if so fire away. Best of luck with the purchase whatever you decide.

There are two types of "Jeeps" - the likes of the 3l Pajero, Land Cruiser, Land Rover Defender etc. that are effectively lorries and respond to being driven and worked as such, and these other yokes, Hyundai Crossdressers and what-not, that are just about able to mount the kerb outside Wagamama. Anyone buying either type expecting a cool, quirky, rugged, fun sort of car is labouring under a fairly serious misapprehension. :D

Even a Hyundai crossdresser can carry a canoe or tow a trailer tbf

Grandmama's old 300D estate can too, as well as pulling a couple of mares to the gymkhana. It looks a good deal more elegant in the doing of it as well.

Have an xtrail here four years.
    Very happy with it.
Near 40mpg, comfortable, good off road, pulls a trailor with ease, well specked inside. Road tax is a draw back at near €1k
Nothing other than regular service items, oh it had two brake callipers done.

Ah in fairness to my mind a Yeti is more of a high-roof estate with AWD, like a Subaru Forester. :D

I would have said the xtrail would be a good happy medium for the op. Not a big full size jeep that is very hard on diesel put still a good Inbetween one of them and a car.

I had a 2.5 SWB Pajero in 2002-2006.... massive waste of money. Slow as a wet week.
good fun on the farm, but useless on the road...

Could you cough up for a discovery, they look the business and are functional off road...

@op, what weight of a trailer do you want to tow?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,037 ✭✭✭duffman3833

    Suzuki grand vitara
    2.0 diesel
    has seats in back
    tax will be around 710
No idea what it like to drive but on paper its a cheaper option
