Are we supposed to guess? Can you elaborate or explain the crux of the right / wrong?

Guess away if that's the best you can do. I don't have a strong opinion one way or the other, but I am intrigued by the widely differing views of current vs ex-Presidents.

The RIAI are simply lamenting the loss of their privilaged status under SI 9 2014.
    Nothing more.
Too late for them to pretend they actually care about building standards.

...tbh, the most telling part of that statement is this: " The RIAI believes that removing almost one half of all new builds from a robust regulatory scheme is not ..."

In other words, that Builders and developers are not building at all. Only the self-build (either direct labour or through contract), who are building for themselves effectively - tells us the industry here is still near-dead.

    Ode To The Motorist

“And my existence, while grotesque and incomprehensible to you, generates funds to the exchequer. You don't want to acknowledge that as truth because, deep down in places you don't talk about at the Green Party, you want me on that road, you need me on that road. We use words like freedom, enjoyment, sport and community. We use these words as the backbone of a life spent instilling those values in our families and loved ones. You use them as a punch line. I have neither the time nor the inclination to explain myself to a man who rises and sleeps under the tax revenue and the very freedom to spend it that I provide, and then questions the manner in which I provide it. I would rather you just said "thank you" and went on your way. Otherwise I suggest you pick up a bus pass and get the ********* ********* off the road”

Indeed: when I read the retired blokes write:

People spending their own money in their own houses for their own families, can choose how best to invest their resources.

    I hit the delete button.
You think they were buying a bloody telly for the World cup.:D
