    Hi,

I am travelling to India on the 19th of November, I am an Irish resident and citizen.

I was wondering do I need to apply for a visa before I go there? It seems I can apply online for about $100?

Can anybody confirm or elaborate on this?

    Thanks in advance

    Aidan

When you contacted the Indian embassy in Dublin what did they tell you?

Its about €50 for a tourist VISA. I need one myself. I filled in the forms on the Indian government's site and have the form downloaded. Who do I pay to get my visa processed? Site is not very informative

I haven't contacted them yet. I will tomorrow and see what they say.
    What should I ask them?

    I'm not sure.
    When are you going?

Go onto their website and download the form to apply for a visa.

Without wanting to sound like an unhelpful smartarse - this should be really obvious.

All the information you need is there. On payment, it clearly says "Payment is accepted only through postal order or Bank Draft favouring 'Embassy of India, Dublin'."

Yes, you do need a visa to enter India as an Irish citizen. It takes a few days from submission to collection, but they're fairly efficient (as these things go) and helpful.

Be prepared for a bit of a queue in the embassy - so don't just think collection is a two minute in-collect-out job.

    I applied online.

    Paid by card.

Ok, Sorry, I need to make my situation a little clearer.

I am currently living in Canada and have been for the last two years, so I am applying from Canada, so I cannot go to the embassy back home.

It seems like I can apply for the visa from here, online.

Does anybody with experience applying online, from a different country have any advice about this

OK, well that affects things a little bit in fairness.

But I would still just drop them a line - what's the worst that happens?

But assuming the online application dealy is all above board, then it seems the best.

Either way, I would imagine you're going to need to post your passport somewhere - so give yourself plenty of time to allow for that. It looks like you would have to send the form and passport to Toronto, Ottawa or Vancouver.

India recently released an online visa. As far as I know, you don't need an actual visa in your passport. It's like a Turkey Visa. Not 100% sure though as I applied through embassy by post

I applied online two days ago. Got my Visa this morning which I just printed out. Its a 30 day VISA, which starts from your date of arrival. €55.
