I heard the noise but missed it, according to flight radar 24 it came from Tangier in Africa, nice one I will try to get a picture if I can.

    Hello,

I've been offline for a while, can anyone enlighten me about EICM? Here's what the website says...

The airport has obtained a new aviation licence, and a fuel licence recently, from the IAA. The Irish Air Corps are carrying out an audit of the facility this week, and the Coastguard search and rescue Helicopter operations staff will also be visiting the facility this week to carry out their own audit. The airport is being operated under licence from Galway County Council and Galway City Council until May 2015 by Carnmore Aviation Ltd, a company owned by the Conneely Group in Ballinasloe.

    1.Is there a CTR anymore?
2.Is there an ATC or AFISO service available?
3.The website says all their navaids are "temporarily unavailable", so why are they still listed in the IAA's AIP?
4.Did the above mentioned "jet" arrivals do so VFR or not?

    Just curious...

    The CTR is gone.
    No ATC or AFISO available.
There is a NOTAM stating that the nav aids are unavailable. This supersedes the AIP.
All arrivals must make a visual approach irrespective of aircraft type.

What happens with customs and immigration services ? I presume that they are not permanently on site, and there is an arrangement made for them to meet arrivals ? Is there a fire and rescue service permanently on site, or is a county fire service pump put on stand by ?

    Like Rocky, just curious.

I would suspect that for immigration purposes someone will come out from Mill Street.

There probably would have to be some arrangement regarding customs as well.

Wonder do they bill the airport operator for the service?

The local authority fire brigade would not have someone on standby.

Airports have their own specifically trained fire crew for dealing with an aircraft.

If I was sending a multi million euro plane into there at the very least I would want some assurance regarding fire cover.

Wonder if its an insurance requirement?

    Curious as well.

The original Galway Airport fire tender is on site there, I understand they bring in controllers from Weston if required some are ex Galway controllers.

    There is no CTR.
Therefore there is no ATC service.

From my information only 1 of there former Galway Controllers is in Weston.

I am open to correction but since Galway airport closed and the former ATC staff left there is currently no one legally with a valid license for Galway.

It is my understanding once you do not exercise your licence after a set time frame it lapses and the longer you go the greater the length of retraining required.

The original Galway Airport fire tender is on site there,

    Thanks for the update.

Yes, after 90 days of non use, your validation for a particular rating, in this case TWR ADI/APP at EICM, lapses. This period has long passed with the few ATCOs which used to work there.
There is just one of the old Galway staff currently working at Weston, the others have scattered, one to Knock, the other abroad to the dunes...

As per their website, CAT1, with up to CAT4 available, at a price I'm sure...:)
