Not seen it mentioned on ere but there's a lot of work currently on the N15 entering Ballybofey. Looks to be widening/straightening at least a 3km stretch. Looked to be Wills Bros doing the work...

When is the Ballybofey/Stranorlar bypass due to be built? This was in the plans a while ago.

Planning permission was refused due to poor junction design (Donegal RDO have form there...), and has not yet been resubmitted.

    It's probably this;

    N15 Blackburn Bridge Realignment Scheme

The N15 Blackburn Bridge Phase 1 scheme is located approximately 2km south of Ballybofey. Two fatal accidents linked to the substandard alignment have occurred on this section in the last 10 years. The length of the section is 2.5 km and the current AADT is 6500.

The proposed scheme will involve widening and realignment to Standard Single Carriageway, a new bridge structure to cross the Burn Daurnett river is included.

Funding for a number of realignments etc. on the quieter national primaries and national secondaries announced late last year.

This job is nearly finished and it's a massive improvement on the old road. However, there are 2 things that really bug me about it.
They stopped halfway up Mc Grorys brae, which means no hard shoulder for about 250m until the road widens out again ( the whole way to Donegal Town )
And secondly, in the winter there is always trucks getting stuck on the hill, they could easily have had a climbing lane the whole way up?

Maybe that's because that's where the bypass will start. Perhaps.
If so, there will probably be a roundabout there.

No chance, it's on a steep hill, bypass will be much closer to the town.

Unless the hill will be removed, ie a huge cutting?

No it's not that kind of a hill. It climbs up and levels out and continues at that level

Ah, I see. Good man, thanks for explaining that.

Let them progress on with the ballybofey, stanolar bypass now... Definately one of the most frustrating towns to drive through... all it takes is one eejit to block the place up and cause havoc... be it at the lights at the top of the town or the pedestrian crossing outside mcelhinneys...

Agree with kevwoody regarding the climbing lane idea,

N15 Ballybofey/Stranorlar bypass is thankfully in planning, we'll be keeping you updated (and you'll be keeping us updated) here: http://www.boards.ie/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=2055724086

Good to see them taking such an active approach to Donegal's road infrastructure, especially in light of Brexit. 3 N56 realignments to start this year, along with the bigger N13, N14 and N15 schemes to start into the planning phases. Work to go ahead on the N2 in Monaghan also and the A5 to begin with a bit of luck
