Completely unintentional, but none of us have mentioned anything about Kris Boeckmans and his current condition. So I think there deserves to be a thread.

    In case anyone is unaware...
The Belgian crashed heavily on stage 8 of the Vuelta a España 10 days ago, suffering facial trauma with several fractures, concussion, broken ribs, pneumothorax, laceration and bleeding of the lung, and swollen pulmonary tissue. He was medically induced into a coma and has since been treated by a process called Extracorporeal Membrane Oxygenation (ECMO), which is essentially an artificial, external lung. He has now been able to come off that, though he still requires breathing support and faces another week in a coma.

There is further info available here.

Here's hoping he will be ok when he wakes up from the induced coma and that he'll make a full recovery.

Kris Boeckmans out of medically induced coma

    From velonews:
Kris Boeckmans (Lotto-Soudal) spoke with his family and doctors on Thursday for the first time since he was put into a medically induced coma following a harrowing crash in stage 8 of the Vuelta a España.

CT scans following the incident showed no signs of brain injuries other than a severe concussion, according to team doctor Servaas Bingé.

    That's a relief!

It was mentioned on the Eurosport commentary the other day that he was still in the coma, and I was getting nervous that he might end up like the unfortunate Michael Schumacher.

Thank God for that, the poor man. It really looked like an awful fall, I was cringing when I saw it.

    Thanks for the update lads.

No signs of brain injury other than a severe concussion? Hope he has no lasting effects from the concussion.
