Elastic Danger

My 11 year old daughter asked me the other day what I used to play in the yard when I was at school. I told her we played, among other things, elastics. Remember that!? We googled it and I showed her a YouTube clip of kids playing it.

She thought it looked like great fun so we bought the elastic and she was out on the road showing her friends. She introduced her classmates to it this week and they were all playing it in the yard today when a teacher rocked up and told them to stop as it was too dangerous.
Is it me or is this over the top? She said they are allowed skipping ropes, which I would have thought was a lot more dangerous. And they wonder why kids are becoming obese.

Unfortunately, with many people willing to sue schools over anything, many schools are given no choice. Personally, I agree with you, that it should be allowed, but sadly, schools are running scared.

A quick scan of some posts on this thread illustrates why schools have become so wary.

As a Mod Byhook may not be able to single out a particular post but I can. Have a read of post#9 in the above link. This is what schools are dealing with!

Jaysus, the only one that would gain out of that situation is the solicitor.
