I was in a bike accident when I was 8 years old,I broke my neck and was awarded 14400 euro.I was to be given this money when I was 18..

So I presumed the interest would make the money rise a bit,but It has only gone up 350 over 10 years?Surely this can not be correct?

also I was awarded 14400 plus legal expenses paid,Now the solicitor is looking for money off me?

Am i being scammed?sorry If this isn't the right thread.

Surely your parents have some advice on this as you would have sued through them?

IIRC court awards to minors are/were administered through the Wards of Court. This entity is staffed by civil servants and they invest the money in the best interest of the Ward(you). Is should have amassed a lot more than what you are saying, even allowing for the banking mess & low interest rates. Definitely you should get your parents on the case. Get them to find out from the solr why he is looking for more costs at this stage.

Yes but neither have a clue about how the legal system works..I was awarded 14400 plus legal expenses paid.I surely thought there would have been more interest than 350 euro over 10 years?

also the fact that he is asking for expenses now is P*ssing me off

Thanks,Yes that would mean yearly interest rates were below 0.20%

As with all trades, there are bad apples. This might be a misunderstanding, but you need to check it out. The Solicitor would have been awarded legal costs on settlement presumably, so should not be seeking fees. Interest aside, it does not sound right.

I was in a car accident when I was 15. My case settled when I was 19. The solicitor firm got their costs awarded. When I was taking a cheque off them, it was xx thousand and 500 euro. The solicitor dealing with the file said they would hold 500 for any other bills that might pop up and I would receive the rest in a few weeks. I took my xx thousand and didn't think about the 500. About a month later, I get a call form the solicitor saying there was €4,500 owed to the health insurance company. I said that they were told on the steps of the court that I was to walk away with the sum offered and that ALL other bills were to be covered and considered in the expenses. (well my dad said it). He was beside me when I was on the phone and heard the solicitor. He took the call and repeated what I had said, politely telling her to fcuk off. Clearly they fcuked up and wanted me to cover their mistake.
