How does backdated nct work if the nct is out more then a year?
Looking at a car with no nct since 2/14..would it have to be nct'd twice to get it back up to date or would it just go from when it was tested because it's been siting so long?

My nct was out of date since July 2013. it failed a couple of tests and then eventually passed in April of this year. The cert I got was for July 2017!

You'd get until February next year or February 2017 depending on the age of the car. If it's ten years or older you'd get until February next year only.

    Is that true though?

I just NCT'd my 1998 car for the first time since 2012. First test on August 19th, then passed the retest on Saturday. I got a cert until the 31st of August 2016.

So your car was 1st registered on 31/08/1998. That is it's NCT Anniversary Date.
Unless you do an early test (more than 3 months ahead of the expiry date) then your expiry date will always be 31/08.
If you let it lapse for a few years you will still get an expiry date for the 31/08 if you pass an NCT Test.

To the OP.....what NCT Tester said.

Sweet. That's a nice bit of luck to time it just right then.
