Canyon Endurace CF with 105

I've built-up a Canyon Endurace CF with a Shimano 5800 groupset. The only problem I've had is with the front derailleur setup.

There are similar issues discussed online, but before I go back to fiddling with it does anyone else have the same frame/derailleur combination? It would be a great help if I could see photos of the correct setup.

    Thanks.

I've one that I got direct from Canyon assembled, so I should be able to take a few pics this evening and post them, if that's any help? Do you want them from any particular angle(s)?

Here you go (apologies for the giant images, but uploaded quickly from my phone!). Not embedded for the same reason of giant images as mentioned.

Whoah, is that the original setup as received from Canyon? If so then that explains a lot - the cable is not routed in a standard manner as per the Shimano dealer manual. I followed the manuals and the shifting was very difficult with enormous tension required to shift the cable.

Your routing makes sense as it provides the additional leverage needed to get the shifting started.

In any event it seems that I had so much tension in the cable that I managed to explode the BB cable guide plug yesterday. Hopefully it won't take too long to get a replacement from Canyon.

Once I get the replacement part I'll go for your non-standard cable setup and hopefully all will be well.

    Thanks again!

Can't help with the converter or cable routing but the dérailleur should be 2-3mm max above the big chain ring, any higher and it wont pick up the chain smoothly.

Yeah, that is exactly as I received it. I must take a look at the OH's Liv Envie (Giant Propel) also with 105 in the morning to see how it is routed as a reference from a bike assembled by an LBS. Will let you know which it is closer to!

It looks like I encountered the same issue as in the Lennard Zinn article I linked to in the OP - the position of exit of the cable from the BB is slightly too close to the FD, so there is insufficient leverage to begin to move the FD from the lowest position.

Cython's factory-built Canyon has the cable routed in the way which Shimano say not to do, but if it works it works.

I have Ultegra 6800 which must be the same as 105 5800.

I dropped a chain last year and pushed my FD out of line which was rectified by adjusting the grub screw through the body of the derailleur (first image). It has the effect of turning the fd off line with the bike but to get it into line with the chain, a bit like SRAM yaw.

My Endurace came with the cable as per the Shimano manual.

    Hope this helps

So this seems to be routed more along the lines of the Shimano manual, just as an FYI, but then it is a small ladies frame compared to an XL Endurace, so may not be valid as a direct comparison either!

I fixed the bike up at the end of last week using the non-standard cable routing as shown in Cython's posting. The shifting is perfect now with light-force required to move the deraileur.
