Looking to buy new car. Nothing fancy.
Salesman gave me cash price yesterday on first visit to him.
My question is how much can I expect him to come down from that first cash quote?
    Cheers

There's no short answer. It depends on the margin they have to play with in the car or if targets need to be met.

What's the car and someone might know?

    Thanks for that.
Anyone know if going end of month or quarter is best?
    Car is a Carens.
    Cheers

Dealers probably have a set margin on brand new cars so end of month, etc may not have a bearing on the level of discount available. You should visit more than one dealer and try and play them off each other for the best price. If the dealer has a particular car in stock for a while then you may push a better deal if he wants to shift it.

And crucial in any negotiation if you want to get something for the best price possible: make sure the seller is convinced that you are willing to do the deal and that you have the money. Preferably there and then.

That's true, but just as important is the seller is also convinced that you're quite happy to walk away and buy something else, somewhere else. Especially true when dealing with VW and Toyota dealers, who think people are tied to that brand.

    Thank you all again.
Can you tell me, if I'm to pay there and then, will they accept a personal check as down payment, and pay rest a day or two later? Or will they Accept personal check for whole lot, on the spot?
I don't want to get bank draft because that looks like Im not willing to walk.
    Thoughts?

Get a deal you're happy with and leave a deposit by debit or credit card. You can then pay balance by bank draft when you go to pick up the car.

Take a look outside Dublin as well.
I generally find better deals elsewhere as overheads aren't generally as high.

OP how did you get on? I'm possibly looking at similar and interested in the outcome!

Incidentally I asked today and for EX spec 161 I was quoted €26,250 cash. Standard seven year warranty and three year roadside assist included.

Sorry, thought I answered week ago, but it must not have taken.
We ended up with entirely different car. Blame the wife. We also had trade in, that wasn't worth much.
That price sounds decent for 161 model; our quote was for 152.
Would highly recommend Liffey valley Kia dealer,
but NOT Kia dealer at Ashtown, off Navan road. Very bad salespeople there. We practically had to beg to test drive car there.

a canny thing can often be to buy a non d reg car in dublin and down the line trade it in in same county where it will be preferred option.Lot of dublin dealers tend to look to move on RnMn,LS etc quickly and deals can b had proviced you are not too bothered by reg

If buying a 161 most of the main manufacturers reg big numbers in the last few days of Jan so that wud be an optimal time to go. However the exact car you would want would need to be in the dealer doing the deal and ready to be reg'd. It's a game of poker but trust me all the dealers of the big manufacturers will be scrambling for regs come mid-end of Jan, and possibly the other months as well as july
