Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Turbo Trainer

    I got a turbo trainer for those dull wet days that i don't want to go out in that lovely Irish weather and im just asking the question, does the roller on turbo trainer cause wear on back tyre as i checked mine and it was pretty hot after a session so i think there is some friction between tyre and roller which may cause wear, more than cycling on road

    You can buy tyres built for use on turbo trainer. I sourced a spare wheel, cog set and turbo tyre, so can change in less than a minute.

    You need a turbo trainer tyre, or even handier is a spare backwheel with the turbo trainer tyre on it that you swap over.
    Or else another bike for the trainer :)

    Yes. I picked up a wheel for 25E from a guy here on boards that had a worn rim but was dead straight. Put a worn tyre on it and its been perfect for turbo ever since.

    The wear can be greater if the connection between the roller and the tyre isn't sufficient, resulting in the tyre "skidding" a little. I've a turbo which has my tyre in contact with the roller and have had little issue, with the "pressure" of the tyre/roller connection verified by a *click* when tightening.

    Tyres with threads generate more heat. I use a Michelin Krylium which is slick and it develops absolutely no heat but then again the roller is elastogel which probably helps too.

    but this is just the tyre, id have to change it each time to use it. Thats not good for me as i do use the bike outdoors too. would i need to get an extra rim also?

    You can either change the tyre (not that big a deal if it's the winter and you're only getting out on the weekends) or just get a separate wheel.

    I went with the wheel option. If you pick up a cheap wheel, then either use old worn road tyres, or just get the turbo tyre. All in not an expensive setup.
