    Hi there,

Myself and my gf are currently looking at wedding venues in Galway and we love the Glenlo Abbey Hotel. However, the only thing that is turning us off the venue is the size of the main function room. We spoke to the wedding co-ordinated who said that they have had weddings up to 170 people in the room (as recently as this Summer) but I just can't image how they would get that number of people into the room - I'd image it would be a very tight squeeze! Its not a very big room at all. If anyone has had or been at a wedding in the Glenlo, can you please let me know your thoughts?

    Many thanks in advance!

We looked at the Glenlo as a wedding venue and it was the function room that let it down for us too. We were having 170 people and just couldn't imagine how it would have been comfortable for that amount of people even though Cathy told us it's not a problem etc etc. We just felt the room let down the hotel unfortunately as the rest of the hotel is fabulous!
Anyways we decided to go to another hotel instead which is out in connemara with a much bigger room.

I think you know yourself it is just too small for your numbers..there is no point booking it & maybe regretting it afterwards.
    Hope this helped!

Thanks for the reply Ms Sunshine. I think we know ourselves that its just too small but the rest of the hotel as you said is just fab. Do you mind me asking which hotel you went for in Connemara? We are thinking of expanding our search!

I know it really is a pity the room is not bigger. It just didn't seem worth it for us.
Of course,we went for the Connemara Coast Hotel in Furbo. Room is much bigger and views are stunning!

I work as a Wedding DJ and regularly work at weddings in The Glenlo Abbey. Funnily enough, I may have worked at the wedding during the summer that they spoke about. There was about 180 - 200 there, it was very busy but not uncomfortable.

Hi Shyboy, yes the suite they showed me is the Pavillion. It might not be too cramped when people are up dancing but I feel that with the round tables laid out it just felt that bit too tight. The room has no width to it ,only length!

Attended a wedding here in March. They had 158. It was perfect. The food was exquisite. I wouldn't put many more than 170 in it. One of the guests had previously attended a wedding with 175 and said the long tables made it utilise the space more. Having attended lots of weddings over the past 2 years this place is in a field of its own particularly in Galway. If you need more space I'd recommend the Meyrick. Otherwise, Village at Lyons was the only other place on a par with Glenlo followed by Trump. Happy planning!

OP are you certain you will have 170? You will be surprised at how many declines you get. Unless you have a good "back up" list, you will probably end up with about 140 guests in the end. So the room might be perfect
