Hi, just wondering, has anyone here been to a wedding or gotten married in either The Davenport or The Gibson hotel? I really want a city centre wedding in a hotel, but I don't know where to start! Thanks for reading!

I attended a fabulous city centre wedding in No 6 Kildare Street a few years ago, just wonderful. But there's no accommodation there if you need that.

I was at a large function at the Davenport a couple of years ago (not a wedding, but a sit-down dinner and dancing) and I wouldn't recommend it at all. Food was dreadful - the starter and desserts were basically inedible. From chatting to one of the organisers, it wasn't cheap per-head and when they complained to the hotel they didn't get anywhere.

What numbers are you looking at?
There are other options apart from hotels that would be worth looking at - eg, Fallon & Byrne, other restaurants.
You can then pick the nearest hotel(s) for accommodation.

No. 6 is a fab venue but the bar being in a different area really affected a wedding I was at there. I had considered it for our wedding but seeing how the band were playing to a near-empty dancefloor most of the night put me off.

Hi, I don't know if you're signed up to Deal Rush but they actually have a great deal at the moment for weddings at the Gibson. Not sure if there's minimum numbers or whatever but it might be worth checking out. FWIW, I've been at functions in both venues. Davenport function room is nicer but Gibsons food and service was better. The room has a weird layout though.

The morrison also has a very nice function room and it's very central.

A lot pricer than the Gibson or Davenport though I'd reckon!! :D

Hi, I can see how this could happen, but the wedding I attended, people were evenly divided between the dance floor & the bar ... Possibly more on the dance floor to be honest. But that was down to the crowd I suppose.

It'd be for about 130 and I really want a hotel over a restaurant type setting... it's so difficult trying to choose somewhere! And ye, the Westing is very pricey! :)
    Thanks for replies!

I didn't know whether the Morrison did the whole proper shebang, as in chair covers, etc, etc?! I must have a look! Thanks Sweetie!

Does it need to be city centre?
I heard this place is supposed to be nice:

I've never been to a wedding but I've been to (and organised) a lot of events in the Gibson.

It's sleek it's modern and in town. The food is fantastic and the staff are incredibly good to deal with.

    There's also the westbury

    There's also the westbury

I'd assume that's way more expensive than the davenport and Gibson?

It usually is down to the crowd, but the room doesnt help. Ive played there and all the other "bar in a different room" venues and other entertainers will attest to same, if its more of a drinking crowd, you're battling the bar all night with low numbers on the floor.

Could have the best band and dj in the world playing but if all a crowd want to do is drink and chat, they'll stay in the bar. Its not a complaint as such, some people want that. But if you want a big party night with more dancing then drinking, the bar in a different room doesnt work IMO.
