Just wondering are their any tax advantages for investing in stocks?

In the UK they have ISAs..... " New ISA is a class of retail investment arrangements available to residents of the United Kingdom. It qualifies for a favourable tax status. Payments into the account are made from after-tax income. The account is exempt from income tax and capital gains tax on the investment returns, and no tax is payable on money withdrawn from the scheme either. Cash and a broad range of investments can be held within the arrangement, and there is no restriction on when or how much money can be withdrawn."

I haven't heard of anything similar or comparable in Ireland, but thought maybe better to see if I've missed something :)

The first €1270 in gains each year is Capital Gains tax free. I think if you take your dividends as Capital, they are included in the €1270 limit(Which is pretty low and Ill guess is from when the Irish pound changed to Euro, as £1=€1.27). Its better than the keeping your money in savings and having to pay DIRT on them
