Tallaght to Lucan?

Hi all,

Just moved to Dublin and I'm trying to figure out the easiest way to do this on public transport. I find the Dublin Bus route planner is pretty useless, especially if you don't know the place all that well. Google maps suggests the best way is to get the 76 from Tallaght Hospital to Liffey Valley and then get the 25/66/66a/66b out towards Lucan......does this seem about right? Is there a more direct route out there?

That would be correct.

Additionally, if you time it correctly, you could also catch a 239 from Liffey Valley Centre to Lucan. This would save you a bit of a walk to the Lucan Road stop for the 25/66/66a/66b/67.

When you get off the 76, just walk back towards the roundabout at the red-brick Abbott building. Follow the road around to the right and you'll see the pedestrian bridge which spans the Lucan Road. Stay on your side of the bridge, follow the steps down and you'll see a bus shelter for your bus towards Lucan.

Coming back, listen for the audio announcement on the bus for 'Liffey Valley' and then cross the pedestrian bridge back to the Shopping Centre stop.

So even though there's a buslane from Tallaght to Lucan, there's no direct bus route...
You wonder why there can't be a little bit of joined up thinking between the NTA, DB, and those who build the roads...

The council built that and other link roads during the Celtic Tiger and put bus lanes on each one. However this was done as a design standard, and not specifically for any planned service.

There were plans for the 166, but it and other orbital services got shelved due to lack of funds. That remains the case.

I'm sure if South Dublin CoCo want to fund said services, DB will be delighted to operated them.
