Hi I drive a 06 1.9 peugout partner and I have had no luck getting it to commercial tax

I pay 800 a year on motor tax if I got a 9-10 year old car would the tax be much lower ? in the long run 800 is surely going to cost me but I need to weigh that with the cost of a car ??

OK I think on average most cars are 1.6 litre on done deal? you'd want one with a little bit of power anyway wouldn't you ? but a lot are petrol as well whereas I drive diesel ,I thought age of the car affected motor tax but I'm probably wrong ,I don't know I get minimum wage so really don't know should I buy or stick with what I have

Motor tax changed from 2008 on to being Emissions based. Most regular diesels became very low tax so if you wanted tax at say around €200 you'd be looking at a 2008+ Diesel like a 1.9TDi/1.6 etc.

While buying another car may reduce your motor tax, you need to take into account the cost of buying the car too. Spending thousands on another car may mean it takes a good few years for you make a savings from lower motor tax.

If motor tax is a concern try trading current car in for something like a one litre or 1.2 or similar.

If you're in a Partner now you're probably looking at transporting? If so you'll need something stronger than a 1.2...

Yeah well I'd 4000-5000 to spend on a car if I get maybe 2000 for my van so I don't think I could afford a 08 yet maybe in a years or so time I don't know ? , I know there's a lot there to mull over I never had any problems with my van but I could get a new second hand car and get loads of mechanical problems and done deal is such a mine field and I'd like a little bit of power alrite ,decisions decisions :)

€4000 is another 5 years in a vehicle you know to be sound v's €4000 + the van on a 2nd hand motor to save a few hundred Euro a year. Unless you can afford to go after 08 then I'd stick with what you know as the tax savings on a pre 08 won't be that much.
