windows 10 certainly is free for a year, after that you will have to pay for the upgrade or revert to windows 7. i assume you pay 20 euro a month for your broadband service, upgrading windows or not will have no effect on this payment unless you have a download cap? if so you need to be careful upon downloading your windows 10 upgrade amongst all the other downloads, so that you do not go over this download cap as that will probably cost you a lot in over usage downloads. windows 10 upgrade will be a large download. you're under no obligation to upgrade windows as windows 7 works very well

    Did someone confirm this?
I thought the plans after the year were still up in the air but the majority assume it'll continue to be free since it's still installed.

    NOT TRUE...

You might have to pay for "updates" in a few years, but by then Windows 7 will be eol, and not getting updates anyway, so no real difference.

Yes, windows 10 is a big download, and certainly to be avoid on a mobile and/or capped connection.

thats a good point. im only assuming you can revert back to win 7 after that fact but you could be right. it seems like a very good marketing approach from microsoft. havent bothered upgrading myself. happy with 7

Around 3GB, depends on whether you're running 32 or 64bit.

It doesn't make any sense, to be honest. What version of windows you have has nothing to do with what your internet provider charges you. They couldn't care less. As above has mentioned, highly likely that windows 10 will remain free for most, with paid addons to use some parts of it. Can't see them completely charging it up.

Since installing Windows 10 on my 1 year old Haswell i5 laptop with 8gb RAM, SSD, Chrome is taking ages to upload webpages. Once the laptop is on a few hours thing improve. Cannot put my finger on what is causing it to be so slow, is my ISP or windows 10 incompatibility with chrome or what?

My windows tablet with 2gb ram is now quicker than my laptop!

Its a software issue, not a broadband issue. Open a thread in "Computers and Tech" or "Windows" subforums.

Windows10 is terrible so many bugs I have issues with flash player since upgrading to it tried everything nothing really helps. Hopefully they fix bugs in an upcoming update.

jay you can revert back to old os within a month, that 10 is too new and early adapters are just bug testers, wait at least10 months.

It sounds like Microsoft wants just one operating system across the board just like apples Ios software.
I am suspicious though as I felt with apple iPhone software updates were used to make your older phones run poorly i.e. battery ran down quicker.
So now are Microsoft doing the same thing so they can sell more computers. I know it's a bit out there but it's my opinion so I won't be taking up the offer.

If you use Windows 10 with a mobile Internet device (MiFi, tethering, etc.), be sure to set it as a metered connection. At the very least turn off distributed updates, otherwise it may use your mobile Internet to distribute Windows updates with other users and eat into your data usage, particularly with LTE's fast uplink.

To set your MiFi or tethered phone as a metered connection, first connect to it, then go into Start menu -> Settings, go into Network & Internet, click Advanced options and turn on Set as metered connection.

What Windows 10 will do is not read your Windows 7 external harddrives.

It's scary. Online paedophiles can actually make your keyboard release toxic vapours that make you suggestible.

Ive two Maxtor/Seagate external drives which are not recognised by Windows 10 because I really dont know??

Something to do with drivers I imagine.

Win's 10 - the spinning blue circle and using task manager at record level's to unfreeze and poke the stupid os in to action - if I had bought this OS off the shelf I would be looking for my money back.

I upgraded from Windows 8.1 to 10 & have no problems at all.
I have four external hard drives all different makers connected & they all work fine.
