Losing power, juddering, and cutting out

    Hi

I don't know if anyone can help / got any ideas? Two weeks ago I bought a second hand Nissan Micra, and of course it ran perfectly for the first week.

Then I noticed that the car would lose power, then suddenly rev and speed up again. I hasten to add my foot stayed in exactly the same position on the accelerator! It's awful, I was doing 120 down the motorway and then the car just slows right down to about 100, then leaps into action again. No amount of pressing on the accelerator makes any difference, something is amiss. It's not just at high speed though, this happens at any speed, 50, 60, 100 km/h. It also happens continually every 5-10 seconds - it makes driving really wearing.

The wretched thing also judders in either low speed or low gear, and the steering has got heavy in low gear/speed - haven't been particularly actively steering at high speed. Yesterday, when turning a corner, and later, when executing a three-point turn, it just cut out (and no, my clutch control is just fine thanks!).

Any ideas? I have a 12 month warranty from the dealer I bought the car from, so hoping that this is covered, but I have no idea what the issue / issues might be? I would like to be able to take the car back with some options so that I don't feel entirely stupid! :-)

Thanks for any thoughts you might have. Feeling a bit stupid - never bought a second hand car before, and wondering if I've been played for a fool.

    VL

Is this the newer Micra with electric power steering (the one that looks like a frog)

Hi Com, it's an 07 car - not the old squarer style, nor the brand new styling, the one inbetween. Sorry, that's probably not much help. I can't post a URL, but it looks like the one here:

    w. w. w. theaa.com/allaboutcars/cartestreports/2005077.html 1.2l sports model.

    Thank you!

I assume the power steering warning light doesn't come on and the lack of power steering is a symptom of another problem rather than the problem itself.

I'd be visually checking the battery terminals and making sure they're not loose.

Obviously bring it back to the garage too.
