Do I need planning permission for adding to side of garage?

Currently have a garage. There is a concrete area measuring 7.2m x 3.1m to the side of it.

I had thought originally if building a car port on this space. But then I got to thinking about building walls and putting a roof on it, adding another roller door, basically creating another small garage instead of a car port.

I assume I would need planning to do this? I live in a rural area in a detached house.

Once the floor area goes above 25 square metres in total for existing and proposed then planning is required.

    Thanks angry bird.

Any idea how much planning would cost for a garage that size?

34 bills in planning app fee. May be levies attached but if so shouldn't be too much. Main cost is person doing drawings and doing the paper work to get planning but again should not be too much.

    Mandatory costs :

    Council planning application fee €34
    Ordnance Survey Ireland Maps €60
    Newspaper notice €150 approx

Then it's down to getting the whole site surveyed and drawn up by a competent person. Depending on location this can be anything from €800 to €2k in my opinion.

Car port requires planning too IIRC
It really depends on your location and who you use to prepare the planning. Nixer, architect, engineer or technician all have different price points, same as large companies, one man sole traders etc

    Where are you based?

There's a member or two here from Donegal. They may be able to help with local info.

Doesn't seem to be any planning levies for garages in Donegal, but I couldn't swear by it, just the way the scheme reads to me.
