Anyone know anything about the 40 inch sharpe tv in tesco for 350. Seems a good price for a good size and brand. I can't see it on the website though.

Sharp stopped making TV's for the European market in 2014. Sharp TV's sold in Europe are made by UMC in Slovakia (Brands UMC, Technika, Tevion, Blaupunkt)

Google UMC/Technika and the word capacitors.

Buy a Sony, Samsung or a Panasonic.

Thought there must be a catch - Sharp used to make great TV's - when the flat screens came out first, they were ahead of the rest.

I also thought Sharp was still a top brand.

Would you include LG in that list?

A lot of Panasonics are Vestel made.

Yes, though some models built in 2009/10 had a firmware issue where it would randomly turn the volume down to 0

    Some models (non smart TV's).

If you're looking for a decent budget TV, check out the 40" walker with integrated SAT tuner for €329 in Power City. I also picked up a decent 40" JVC Smart ( basic smart including the Tube and netflix etc ) for €399.

Should've specified that in your original post. People think, as came across in your post, that Panasonic is a benchmark brand.
