1.5 Dci Megane - blue smoke

We have a 04 1.5 Dci diesel megane that has recently had a new turbo fitted as we found it was blowing blue smoke under acceleration and it was drinking oil.

We thought that would have cured the problem but the smoke still persists (300km on car since turbo being done) The mechanic did say there would be a while before any oil in the intercooler/exhaust burned away but im concerned about it.

We love the car and its driving great but everytime we pull away from the lights we leave the cars behind us in a light haze of smoke but then its fine as you drive normal.

How would we sort this/anything else we could investigate?

Sounds like oil still in the intercooler , but that should clear up fairly lively , worst case scenario could be the valves in the head but I doubt that

If the mileage is very high , you could try a thicker oil

    Is it still burning oil?

175000km on the clock. Doesn't seem to be any lower on oil when i checked there... But saying that there is only 300km up on it since turbo was done. It was serviced when turbo was done too.

I will keep an eye on oil level... I take it if it goes down a have a different issue?
Do ye reckon it will take long for intercooler to clear?

Engines age so sometimes a little thicker can help, should take a little bit of mileage to clear up a nice long drive usually solves it

If i find oil level is dropping as i keep an eye on it in the next while, what could that mean?

I wouldn't go changing oil grades yet as that can give trouble with valve lifters etc... Give it a few more km's while keeping a good eye on the oil level, maybe it'll settle down in time.

Could mean the rings on the pistons are a little worn or valves in the head but tbh I wouldn't worry too much on my 323i I was burning oil with 5w30 and then went to 10w40 and then no more issues , just keep an eye out

Nope, Im in trouble im afraid...

Now has 500km on it since turbo was done... still same amount of blue smoke under acceleration - no let up at all since turbo was done and she is burning oil... not much but level is dropping.

Its going back into garage on Wednesday, any idea what they should be looking at now so i know for myself?

Not a DIY effort, moved to main forum.

Did they fit a new turbo or a salvaged turbo from a scrap yard?

    Reconditioned, but practically new.

Is it heavy smoke all the time if it's blue then obviously it's oil being burned well you know that much yourself. What did the mechanic that replaced the turbo say ? By right if the engine was always serviced with the correct spec oil with so little mileage there shouldn't be major wear on the engine internals or seals. But if it was getting the wrong oil even once or twice it could certainly cause wear on seals etc.
