Recording FTA On Sky+ Box

So a neighbour has the old Sky+ box non HD.

It had the Irish EPG and needed other channels to view FTA.

Now I managed to get the UK EPG by turning off the box and putting in the cars backwards and voila, the EPG is the UK one.

Now the only thing is he wants to be able to record them but they won't record as it says there's a problem with your viewing card, given its backwards. I tried leaving the box on with UK EPG and putting in the card correctly and it records but then freezes and the Irish EPG comes back.

TL,DR: Is it possible to get the UK EPG and record able on a Sky+ box?

yes but you need a uk subcription with a uk card. Its not free so give up.

By the way you dont need to put card in backwards to get uk epg, as its a non hd box once its turned off at wall and on again it defaults to uk epg

I tried the below method a couple times alright and it still was in the Irish EPG dunno why that way didn't work.

Interesting, he got this box from someone who was throwing it out and it can record any free channel on the Irish EPG fine, the likes of BBC One, Film4, etc

I had wondered if it was as simple as getting an old UK card to record from the UK EPG

In the UK the old sky+ Boxes only work with the old blue card without a subscription as long as that card had record features switched on by sky before it expired.
If the box had a sky white card then that gets record turned off by sky if you don't pay.
I think once a box has been paired with a white card, it then it won't work with the blue card for record.
So you need an old sky+ that's been lying around unused with its original blue card.
I got one for my parents about 4 years ago and it's still working.

    Plenty on eBay very cheap.
