    hi all,
seen Northwave Celsius GTX MTB boots at a good price and was wondering would they be ok for winter mountain biking and the odd cyclocross?
    http://road.cc/content/review/52286-northwave-celsius-gtx-boots

I know they would be very warm but i always have cold feet in winter time. Also what type of pedals do people run for MTB and cyclocross? will basic Shimano SPD be ok? I won't be doing anything too technical from the MTB side of things.

    Any advice would be appreciated.

They look way too warm for CX unless you are racing in the snowiest conditions.

SPD are a popular pedal. Like this: http://www.chainreactioncycles.com/ie/en/shimano-m520-clipless-spd-mtb-pedals/rp-prod3759

I use Shimano XC51N for generally everything: road, commuting, CX, you name it.

Good enough looks, stud mounts, stiff sole (needs getting used to for walking), no ventilation holes - great in mud and also fine in any Irish weather, including "summer". I was expecting them to be more waterproof due to this, but the difference isn't huge. They are not "warm" in the winter either. Overshoes still required in rain as water gets in from the leg.

XC MTB shoes for cyclocross. Usually warm up pretty quickly, I use sealskinz for the wetter races/spins.

    thanks guys.
like the look of these XC51's http://www.chainreactioncycles.com/ie/en/shimano-xc51-mtb-spd-shoes-2015/rp-prod127720#

would the basic XC Shimano shoe be ok? are buckles / ratchet better for XC? http://www.chainreactioncycles.com/ie/en/shimano-xc31-mtb-spd-shoes-2015/rp-prod127719

XC31 have not stud mounts and you may find them really handy running up a muddy hill. I've lost so much time crawling up the Burma Jungle hill without them, in the last year's National Champs in Swords ... ;)

I personally don't find the ratchet system that useful, would rather prefer all velcro.

XC51 is XC51N with vent holes and stormtrooper colour scheme.
