Dermatologist: Booking directly versus Referral from a doctor

Just wondering if anyone knows if it would be worth my while to get a referral from my doctor to see a dermatologist? How soon after could I expect to get an appointment, versus if I booked directly with a dermatologist?

I haven't gone down the route of GP referral but I booked an appointment with a dermatologist in August and it's a 2 month wait. €180 for the appointment.
