Hey guys, is there a cheaper way to get from dublin - holyhead by ferry than the E82 Irish Ferries want to do me for, as a foot passenger. I frequently fly into leeds bradford and have had flights for E15 return not too long ago!

Megabus for a pound is relatively cheap.

Try Eurolines too especially if you are travelling onwards past Holyhead to the majors cities. It still works out around that fare that you were quoted though

The best thing about the ferry is that you can guarantee the price even at the last minute unlike flying which can be expensive if booked late.

    Megabus no longer serve Holyhead.

    OP, your options are:

    Bus Eireann Eurolines

Sail/Rail with either Stena Line or Irish Ferries:

    Irish Ferries:

indeed, thought my ipad was acting up yesterday evening but that does seem to be the case.

Kindof strange that the money concious folks of Ireland (worst recession in history and all that) didnt take to that service, not to forget the large student population at Bangor university.

    What makes you say that?

The service is still operating - just follow the link that I gave above and scroll down the page. Timetables and fares are all there, along with online booking.

You do have to travel further than Holyhead though, if that is as far as you are planning to travel.

thanks lxflyer, thats the thing, I am only going as far as holyhead... I have seen offers on the ferry, way below the E80 they are currently looking for, oh well, may just have to stump it up. I dont understand why they wont let people out at holyhead. Thanks for the advice and help!

Because it's a bus service to further than Holyhead!!

Why don't you just get a sail/rail ticket to Bangor for example?

Just don't get on the train at Holyhead.

That will only set you back €43 on Irish Ferries or €40 on Stena if purchased in advance.
