TV in new house

    Hi folks,

Not sure if this is in the right forum, but if not someone may be able to point me in the right direction.

Over the weekend, I moved into a new house. I have decided not to go with any digital provider, and would be quite happy with Saorview. Unfortunately, I have no clue as to how to get this. For some reason, I believed that the TV that I had would just pick up Saorview and broadcast it...alas, my naivety was exposed when someone said I needed 1. a wire going from TV point into wall, and 2. a satellite dish.

I didn't know how lucky I was in my last place, which was an apartment. I literally just plugged the wire that came from the wall into the TV and, hey presto, I had about 15 channels. It was great!

Now I don't have that lead, or even the name of it to buy. I was wondering if someone might have the name of this lead, and also perhaps some insight on the best way to get Saorview (conscious of the GAA on at the weekend...would love to get it sorted!)

    Thanks for reading.

Saorview requires an aerial but depending on how close you are to a transmitter and the line of sight you have to the transmitter you might get away with an indoor aerial. It also requires a TV with an MPEG4 digital tuner, how old is your TV?

    Hi alias,

    The TV I have is new(ish), it's a Panasonic 39 inch A300b.

The new house is in Dublin, in the middle of a housing estate.

Thanks a million for getting back to me so quickly.

What is the alternative if there is no aerial in the house? From what I can gather, there is none of the building, although next door seems to have one.

Just an aerial lead, from Currys maybe?

If an internal aerial doesn't work you will need an external aerial installed.

When I got my first digital tv (with freeview installed) many moons ago in a shared house, I just bought 1 of these and connected it to the back of the tv...

where the tv is plugged in is there an aerial socket in the wall, if so worth connecting a lead and see if there is any channels.

OP it sounds like it was analogue UPC you received in your last apartment, that gives about 15 channels and doesn't require any extra equipment (if your house is cabled and the subscription is being paid).

Saorview will give you the RTE channels, TV3, TG4, UTV Ireland, and 3e. Doesn't require a dish but does require an aerial as the posts above have said.
