My tumble dryer sounds sick. Are there any bargains out there? I would prefer an 8 + kg machine.

What brand is it? There's a few very common, DIY fixable for buttons faults with tumble dryers. One of the few appliances that are usually still easy to fix and no need to throw away.

Quick search suggests drum rollers go on them and are replaceable - compare the youtube video noises to the noise from it maybe?
