Reduction of Contract Hours

    Hey all,

Just looking for a bit of clarification...

There are talks around in the company i work for(Large Multinational Retailer) about trying to reduce staff hours, in certain stores(most store only have a budget of 100 hours a week for staff)

I then over heard a Regional Manager talking about reducing hours of an Assistant manager in another store(a girl i know)

So gave her a call, bit of a heads up...She'd been told that: she could offer to reduce her contract by a number of hours she was happy with and then they'd try and find some part timer to reduce theirs voluntarily.

Or they were just going to reduce her contract to 0 hours and assess how many hours the store needed her for and set her contract to that...

Is that actually legal? Or just a scare tactic...

P.S the girl in question has a better job lined up and is due to hand her notice in next week anyways so she's not too bothered...
