A refreshing experience

I wanted to take a minute to post a quick note on a very refreshingly good experience I had when looking to buy a car in Wexford Town, well nearly all good!

I went to 4 garages, 3 out of 4 were excellent and I really enjoyed the experience.

    First:
    Menapia motors:
Receptionist greeted myself and wife as we entered and offered us a cup of coffee whilst telling a salesman we were there. About 5 mins later, after the salesman, Mick, had finished up with a customer he asked us to sit down and listened to our requirements and suggested 2 vehicles (duster and new renault Kadjar). He accompanied us on test drive and was very informative throughout and then went through finance options with us. He promised to follow up with us next week with pricing of our trade in and demo options and rang back as promised with all the info, 5 stars.

    Second:
    Trinity Motors:
Met James there, I think he may be an owner, really nice guy and went through options with us and listened to our requirements and told us what they had on offer, unfortunately nothing was fully suitable but a great experience nonetheless.

    Third:
    Bolands Hyundai:
Really bad experience, wanted to look at and test drive one of their used cars, 2 sales people were chatting away, so we made eye contact a few times and waited in showroom until they were finished, did bother coming over to us, we waited 10 mins and left. Wont be back there again.

    Fourth:
    Wexford car centre Nissan:
Nice experience again, sales person went through options and apologised that the car we wanted to see was being valeted, so we asked when it would be back and they said they would ring us with info. They rang back (barry is the sales guy) and we test drove the following wednesday, lots of info and good experience, just a little overpriced I thought.

Anyway, wanted to highlight some good experiences I had and resorted a little faith in the motor industry for me, I was genuinely really impressed, well done to those garages.

all the good garages did was treat customer as they are expected to ! nothing exceptional about it ! why do we applaud places for doing what they are getting paid to do !

To be honest I wouldn't really care about how well I was treated in a garage. It's not exactly a fancy restaurant or something.
I would prefer to buy from garage with bad salesman, if car and it's price were good.

PS - Why didn't you go to salesman in Bollands to ask what you wanted to ask?

Because they ignored a prospect who walked in off the street so the OP probably took the view that getting after-sales support (if he did buy and something went wrong) would be next nigh impossible so he took his business elsewhere.

Go ahead Cinio and deal with bad salesmen, just don't bother starting a thread here to whinge about them when they don't return your calls if you're looking to get something fixed under warranty.

    You assume
Good Salesman = good aftersales support
Bad Salesman = bad aftersales support.

In my experience (not only motors, but any branch of trade) this is not the case, and quality of those two (sales and aftersales support) is not linked to each other whatsoever.

@Cinio, I don't assume either of those things
@Coylemj, yup, they weren't interested in talking with me, maybe I look like I can't afford a new car or something, no idea
@Goochy, I don't see anything wrong with giving a bit of credit to a garage or sales person that is doing, in my opinion, a good job, there is a lot of giving out on forums and I wanted to add a bit of balance.
@Bandara, it's between duster and honda at the moment, Honda looking more likely but Duster is extraordinary value for money and warranty. I have to say, there is nothing between the 131 quashqai and 151 duster 4x4 models.

To sum up, the experience I had with garages last weekend was a lot better than 2-3 years ago going around to garages.

From my reading it appears harsh to claim a 'really bad experience' at Bolands. What you really had was no experience. All you had to do was approach the salespeople and say 'excuse me...' and I'm sure they would have been as courteous and helpful as the rest.

At least you should give them another chance.

Gotta love boards, focus on the negative sher, 3 great experiences and 1, in my opinion not good experience, lets focus on the 3 that are doing a good job

    No..

In a business that is sales driven, there is very little excuse to ignore a potential sale standing (quite literally) in front of your nose.

A good salesperson shouldn't need to be sought out: the prospect of a sale coupled with any decent customer service training should have them making a beeline to a potential buyer even if it's just to greet and make their presence known.

Completely agree. There's a few dealers in Limerick that are too busy playing solitaire to get up and ask if you are interested in buying something
