Smart replacement for storage heaters

    Hi,

My apartment has a combination of storage heaters and standard electric convection "dumb" heaters.

Ideally I'd like to take these out and replace them with a solution that isn't dependent on storage heaters (I'm always out all day) - and also with something that I can control remotely - ideally this would be a solution that would plug into something like a Nest.

Any suggestions? Have seen interesting things about Fahro which seem to use their own proprietary solution - but also interested to hear peoples impressions of it's remote capabilities.

    Suggestions welcome!

    Thanks

WHat are you trying to achieve?

    Cheaper running costs?

Better temp when you're in the apartment?

Are you in the apartment at weekends?

I alway though thtis was a good solution: http://www.dimplex.co.uk/products/domestic_heating/installed_heating/duoheat_radiator/index.htm

Nest may work for the instanataneous heaters alright, althoug typically the instantaneous heaters have their own built in temp controllers. So all you really need is time control...

Whats the thermal fabric of the apartment like, and the ventilation?

    Faro heaters:

I have them in an apartment. They work brilliantly. very economical. The ESB HQ in cork (Wilton) even replaced their storage heaters and put these in so there is someting to them . i seen them in other large offices aswell. I remember at time comparing wattage to storage heaters when i installed them. They use somehwere between half/third of wattage of storage heaters and you use them on demand. turn on and off when you want

Expensive to buy but low running costs. I didnt buy ones with timers but instead plugged them into pound shop timer plugs if you want to time when they come on and off

Hi, apologies for the delayed response.

    1. My motivations. Currently I have storage heaters which in addition to being big and ugly don't suit my lifestyle - I am out s lot and travel a lot, I want to be able to remotely control to turn on the heating when I'm on my way home. That way I'm only using when I really need it.

    2. It's a pretty warm apartment etc. So not too worried about efficiency - my priority here is convenience without having them running the whole time.

    3. When I'm at home I'd ideally like something that can be thermostatically controlled (on the device or centrally) so I'm getting it just right and keeping it there.
