Situational questions generally based around the competencies required for the role..

Give me an example of when you were in x situation and how did you handle it...

A good idea is to look at the person spec in the job description - you can generally work out the competencies from there.

The questions will be based around the competencies. You'll have to give examples. So, teamworking, give an example of how you operated in a team. Initiative, give an example of how you applied your initiative in the past.

Be aware that questions may not be framed as in 'Tell me about how you managed a project'?
You could well be asked something like 'Can you explain how x company could become more efficient' and as part of your answer you might be able to use your management example or perhaps an initiative example..
Maybe a weak example just there but basically watch out for opportunities to bring in your pre prepared examples into answers you give...you may not be asked directly.

I work in financial services so the competency questions I've seen are different from the examples above.

The questions are practical and often require a calculator.

Could you describe the role or job description?

The Public Appointments Service website has information on competencies for different Civil Service grades which may be of use if going for some kind of comparable position. I'd also recommend looking up the STAR method (situation, task, action, result). This outlined how to structure an answer in competency based interviews.

Well I did it but don't think it went to well. Especially on 2 questions.

What way would I make myself fit better in with the team

What have I accomplished being part of a team and would I change any part of it.

I completely went blank on the first one. Didn't know what do say. Any ideas

And I've a fairly ordinary fella that has never accomplished much with any team. Does that mean I'm not of luck on these jobs.

Someone said these interviews are ran on s points system.would that be right
