Just wondering if anybody could tell me their experiences with Eircom. I am with UPC a few years and up until the last six months everything was fine.

Since then the broadband has been terrible. It is always at one bar and constantly disconnects for a minute and then reconnects. Just streaming things online is tiresome as the internet cuts out while it's loading up. I got an Android box to watch films and sport and it constantly says the Wifi is not in range despite being in the room beside the router. The final straw was last Saturday trying to do some work at home and what have took an hour took over two with constant disconnections.

The same happened as always i rang up and they said plug it out and they will work on it. Then it goes great for a few days before going back to normal.

A rep from Eircom called and offered a great package although i am wary of door to door salesmen.

Can anybody tell me what Eircom is like from experience before i decide to make the change.

Your problem is wifi, not your ISP most likely. Wifi is your responsibility, not the providers. Have a read of this forum.

I found UPC one of the best.

Eircom are terrible to be honest and their pricing is way off.

    UPC soon the be virgin.

I presumed if an android box or the laptop constantly said broadband not in range then it is the providers fault.

But if their was something i could do to make it better i will.

Which modem do you have? It may be possible to bridge it and add a cable router to it which will improve your wifi

Op have you tried turning it off and on again:-).

It can happen where there are conflicting I.P addresses so resetting router is only way.

as said above a hard wire maybe a better option especially for streaming.

Could be hundreds of possible wifi problems.
    Not broadband.

Check for interference, change your wifi channel.
If you've gone through the forum a bit looking for wifi problems/solutions, then you could try getting upc to send you a new modem. That won't fix anything if it's an interference problem.

OP, a couple of quick points:

    - the wifi on android boxes is rubbish. Either use an Ethernet cable or get those TP Homelink Plugs if you're using it in a different room.
    - However, I also had major issues with UPC when trying to use my android box. Experienced nothing but dropout and buffering issues
    - Before people say it, it was definitely the connection and not the box as it worked fine on other ISP's. (I tried and tested it)
    - NEVER buy anything from the door to door reps!!!
    - I have heard poor reviews of Eircom's tv service but I think that's mainly down to the fact that the signal comes via the internet connection and that it is not user friendly. Most people are so brainwashed by Sky/UPC that they can't process anything else or cope with change (I don't have it myself so can't confirm or deny them)
    - I have the eFibre though and highly recommend it! The android box runs like a dream and there are no dropouts like before. All other devices run great as well and the wifi range is far better. Wouldn't go back to UPC to be honest (especially not while they are using the Horizon box) and I found it overrated to be honest. Faster does not equate to better, give me a stable connection with decent speeds any day over a faster but error prone connection!

I am with them since dial up days. I even got an ISDN line to double my speeds back then, which was mighty expensive. Ever since, the speeds have increased and the prices has come down. Without checking back, I am sure that I was paying a lot more for 512/128 kb than I am now for FTTC 50/15 MB.

No UPC here so all the upgrades have come in the absence of any competition. Apart from a few brief outages, probably less than one a year on average, the service has been first class for all those years.

You wouldn't normally read about experiences like mine. Because people who have had problems are more likey to air their grievances, than are satisfied customers to publicise their approval. But I would venture to suggest that mine is by far the more typical customer experience, out of their customer base of hundreds of thousands.
