Are the PS2, GC and Xbox finally retro?

Seeing as we are now well into the PS4/XBO/WiiU cycle, to the end of the latter's cycle to tell the truth, can we now see the big machines of some 15 years ago as retro?
Or are we still hand wringing over it?

I've considered them retro for a while now - not quite the same retro as the classics but hard not to define them as such when there hardware and games are out of cycle and starting to look dated.

While most people would consider retro all that is pre-DC/GC/PS2/XBOX era, going on the 2nd gen after that one now, I believe we are safe to call it retro now aren't we?

jeez, next year it's going to be 15 years already since those beasts came out!

For me yes, I'd consider them retro consoles at this stage

In the PS3/360 era I found the idea of the PS2/GC/XBox generation ever being retro absurd.

Now another generation down the line and it definitely is starting to have that vibe to it.

Weird how time plays such a huge part in how you perceive things. I guess that's what 'retro' is all about really.

Don't be so vague and obtuse, tell me what you really think ;)

Ya its tricky to comprehend a console capable of emulating a 'retro' console being retro itself :)

Lol, like I said...for me they are retro consoles now. They're well outta the mainstream eye, & firmly in the realm of collectors really these days. The Wii too is on its last legs imo, a decade old next year & on the verge of being two generations behind (Wii U & NX).

When you are actively buying for a machine from its launch, it can be hard to ever see it as retro.
Retro suggests something that came before, but for folk of a certain age there is no before!
Retro gaming once meant Atari, Commodore and Sinclair, then Sega and Nintendo.

I still find it hard to see Mario Sunshine, Project Gotham or Global Defence Force as retro, though they must be.
It seemed incredible at one stage that someone's first console could be a PS3 or a 360, soon we'll be faced with posters here whose first machine was a PS4 or a Xbox One!

    Retro inception

So if I use a PS2 to emulate a Snes and then use the emulated Snes to play the emulated version of Breakout in Legend of the Mystical Ninja...world explodes?
