Who is favourite to referee the all ireland football final?

I dont think any of the referees who refereed the semi finals will get it?

Would it be padraig hughes or marty duffy?

Holy Cow, surely not Marty Duffy:eek:. There will be no play, only all frees;)

Marty did a quarter final so he might be in for it!!

After yesterday, Kofi Annan might be needed

Dublin will hardly want "Dublin Joe" reffing the final if they get to it after yesterday.
What about that Sludden lad from Tyrone, surely he's due another big game in Croke Park at this stage?

    Rory Hickey from Clare

I heard people talking up Gough earlier in the year, don't know much about him.

He looks the most likely actually.

It can't be anyone of the 3 who did the SF, it can't be O Sullivan, and if Mayo are playing I doubt the GAA will risk the potential fall out from Reilly being in charge.

Marty with all due respect does not have the big game mentality, Hughes has already had a controversial outing with Kerry.
So the pool to pick from is not huge.

David Gough has to be outstanding candidate.

    Rory Hickey from Clare

With a Munster team in the final that won't be happening.

But yet they appoint a referee from Leinster for the Dublin-Mayo replay

Marty is on the mayo border in sligo so that along with the fact that he is a muppet will rule him out

Kinsella will be good for the replay. I think he is an excellent ref.

I think Gough has been good this year, but I dont remember him getting many big games like Sundays during the year. What big games has he done to date really?

I think Rory Hickey is also very good ref but I thought he would have got more games.

Padraig Hughes has done two big provincial matches - munster final and ulster semi I think. I thought they were setting him up for the all ireland this year.

Think Coldrick was odds on favourite on PP before the quarter finals.

I'm hoping for Gough. He is very good.

    It'll probably be Coldrick.

At this rate we should be using some of the "Primary Whistlers".

Real rumors that Marty the imp Duffy will be reffing. Sweet God above but it will be chaos if he is.
Reilly would be a candidate if Mayo aren't involved. Who ever it is will be under a lot of pressure and need solid assistance from their linesmen and umpires.

I think David Coldrick will get it. Looking back over the fixtures it looks like he will get it.

They just couldn't give it to him.

Unless it's reward for hanging him out to dry.

Once Joe McQuillan isn't reffing it will be fine, that man quite frankly shouldn't be left hold a whistle never mind ref a game. Padraig Hughes from Armagh has already shown himself to be well capable, level headed and a very fair referee, he will stamp out cynicism and is favour of the game the way it should be played; He would be my choice or else David Coldrick of Meath.

What did Joe Brolly say about that Hughes lad?
    And I believe him.

Who will ref the 2016 football all Ireland

    Martin Sludden deserves another go

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 15,743 ✭✭✭✭Fr Tod Umptious

Could be Deegan, could be Hickey, could be Joe but that would be mad given the way he already refed one Mayo game this year.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,911 ✭✭✭kala85

What about Eddie kinsella. Would he be in the.running

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 9,286 ✭✭✭seligehgit

I know he's not likely to be in the running after refereeing the game today but David Gough would be the stand out candidate imo.

It would be crazy if it was Joe. He has already reffed one controversial match this year and also struggled to control the drawn semi-final between Mayo and Dublin last year. I find that he too often becomes a big talking point in matches he's invovled in.

I know some people weren't happy with some of David Gough's decisions today, but I actually thought he did pretty well for the most part. I just like that he isn't too whistle-happy. He lets the games flow more than most.
